Being Frank…

Accepting my failings

Creating Chaos out of…chaos…

May here at Chateau Bun is one long round of birthdays, especially as we sometimes celebrate Spiders birthday in may too on the grounds that the weather is better  (if your birthday present was 2 days at Legoland I’m sure you’d rather celebrate it in may than march !)…So I guess we’ve been kinda pre occupied.

Add to that being lost in DIY hell… at Christmas we realised that we had been back in the house after the rebuild for 5 years…so perhaps it was time we finished tiling the bathrooms and the kitchen…but before we finished tiling the kitchen Husband decided we needed 2 more cupboards from IKEA…but then we got the flu… and then after we built the cupboards Husband decided that we needed to reseal the wooden surfaces…

In the meantime I’d arranged for a furniture restorer to take away a family heirloom…a 4 ft x 4ft x 120m chest of drawers to be stripped and restored whilst I painted the dining room… of course the delays to the kitchen tiling meant that it all happened at once so the dining room (where I sew) has been out of commission since before Easter…and  I have been less than popular with the rest of the family since I moved the contents of the dining room into the downstairs bathroom meaning that for a short time we became a 1 toilet family !

Work has also been pretty stressful as pretty much my whole caseload turned litigious just after Christmas…and then the boss went on holiday for 2 weeks and I had to “act up” in his absence….

So to be honest I haven’t been “feeling the love” when it comes to knitting….I’ve lacked inspiration…and as for sewing…well I’ve been feeling a bit blocked due to body issues ( I went back on the Matt Roberts programme which eats into knitting/sewing time) plus I still haven’t finished that 3rd bag…partly because the sewing machine is in the bathroom…partly because  I have a mental block…it’s hard to finish things when you no longer feel the love…

Anyway…new month…new attitude… especially if Husband finishes regrouting the floor in the dining room so that I can put everything back together again

I probably should make cushions

My knitting is in the naughty corner. I made a mistake several rows back and in trying to correct it by laddering the stitches down have made an even bigger mess…oh well good thing I hadn’t planned to knit this weekend and instead was going to finish a skirt and finally do those button holes…

“what’s that Mr DFS ? You are going to deliver my sofas at the end of February and not  the middle of March…!!!”

On Friday I got a phonecall which completely derailed any weekend plans. Saturday was spent taking the living room to pieces and storing it in the dining room (yes my so called sewing space), Sunday has been spent painting the ceiling and eventually (after many trips to DIY shops to buy tester pot after tester pot) painting the walls…

Although the painting is now finished i won’t be able to get the sewing machine out until we have rebuilt the living room, but before that can happen Husband has to relay the floor and we are far too tired for that tonight…

The room though looks far too smart and formal for us…I think it may need someone to leave lego on the floor to make it feel more like home…

Black Russians

Husband is a champion maker of Black Russians. Normally I am not a big fan of cola, but it’s been a week of hard graft and running around so tonight I have my feet up and a very large representative of my husbands craft (think pint glass).

The dishwasher conked out about 2 weeks ago and despite a heroic attempt at resuscitation by Husband time of death was called on the patient after 5 days. A replacement was found…eventually…which ticked every box (quiet, low water consumption, low energy and most importantly since we have economy 7, a timer) and following in depth discussions as to whether we had the money to replace it v. the fact that we both have full time jobs involving hideous amounts of commuting added to we actually both like being married to each other, both hate washing up and would actually like to remain married to each other… we pressed the button and ordered a new dishwasher.

Naturally this meant one of us had to take a day off to await delivery.  Unfortunately (for both of us) this happened to be me.  Unfortunately also I have been a bit depressed recently (due to cold weather), have just spent 3 days of pain and distress due to a bean stew (will explain another day about book club) and had bought paint and wallpaper about 2 months ago with the intention of redecorating the bedroom…

So…on friday morning I started redecorating the bedroom, which because I took the curtainrail down meant we spent the night on the sofa bed downstairs on friday and resulted in us dragging our poor son round IKEA and Dunelm today looking for curtains and curtain rails.

As of this evening I have new purple curtains and a half decorated bedroom plus the start of a built in wardrobe.

The house is in chaos, it’s going to be worse tomorrow, but we may actually have finally turned the corner and have made a start on making this house actually “work”…after all we knocked it down in the first place to turn it into something that fitted us as a family and it will be 3 years in February since we moved back in and we still have too much stuff and no where to put anything.

I suspect my next post will have to be about our anniversary pilgrimage to Northampton and the Rennie Macintosh house there since that is really what has prompted the redecoration/storage need.
